NEW SITE: Off The Ground Coffee
Earlier this month we announced the launch of our first bespoke website, Off the Ground Coffee.
Around nine months ago, Josh, an old school friend of mine and one of the co-founders of Off the Ground Coffee House, and I got talking at a local Park Run in Middlesbrough. After catching up on the eight years that had passed since we both left school in 2008, Josh told me how he and his business partner, Brad, were about to open a specialist coffee shop, right in the heart of Middlesbrough.
Impressed, I offered to build their website for them, to which they gladly accepted.
What They Do
In early 2015, cofounders Brad and Josh met through a charity they both worked for in separate universities. Josh wanted to make a difference in his beloved Middlesbrough, and after delighting in Colombia’s chilled coffee culture, he wondered: why couldn’t coffee be used to create a positive change in his local area? With this vision in mind, they worked through late 2015 to finalise their plans, before finally moving in to begin the work on their current site on Grange Road, Middlesbrough in August 2016.
However, after speaking with Josh & Brad, it was clear that they didn’t want to be like every other coffee shop; they wanted to do two things markedly different.
Firstly, they wanted to focus on high quality, ethically sourced raw ingredients. Working with London based company, Ozone, each cup of coffee that they sell is sourced from either Guatemala, Ethiopia, Brazil or Colombia and carefully selected to ensure that each farmer is compensated fairly in return for their coffee beans.
Secondly, they don’t want any profits that they make to simply line the pockets of the owners. They want to help make a genuine difference in the local community by ploughing a percentage of all proceeds to help the local homeless, drug afflicted and less fortunate.
These two important facets of their business make it genuinely stand out from its competitors.
What They Needed
When speaking with the guys during our initial briefing, the passion for their company, their industry and their philanthropic model was abundant and clear. It was, therefore, our responsibility to ensure that the website conveyed this message to the viewer in equal measure.
We believe that this, mixed with strong user experience and solid design principles in mind, has produced a website that the guys, and their company can be proud of!
But don’t just take our word for it, you can take a look at the finished product here.
